Enhancing Ball Control with First Touch Drills
The first touch is critical in controlling the ball and setting up your next move. Start by practicing wall passes. Stand about 2-3 meters from a wall and pass the ball using the inside of your foot. Focus on cushioning the ball gently as it returns, keeping it close to your body. Alternate between controlling with your right and left foot.
To add variety, introduce a partner who can pass the ball at different angles and speeds. Practice using other parts of your body, like your thigh or chest, to control the ball when it’s played in the air. This drill enhances your ability to handle unpredictable situations during matches. Finally, practice under pressure by having a teammate act as a defender, forcing you to make quicker decisions with your first touch.
