Mastering Possession with Rondo Drills

Possession football relies on precise passing, sharp movement, and quick decision-making. Rondo drills are perfect for developing these skills. To set up, create a circle with 5-8 players on the outside and 1-2 players in the middle as defenders. The objective is for the outside players to pass the ball among themselves while keeping it away from the defenders.

Focus on one-touch passing to maintain speed and fluidity. Encourage players to stay light on their feet and anticipate their next move before receiving the ball. The defenders should apply realistic pressure, pushing the outside players to think and act quickly. Rotate roles frequently to ensure everyone experiences both attacking and defending perspectives.

For more advanced training, add constraints like limiting touches or increasing the number of defenders. You can also expand the size of the rondo to create more space, emphasizing longer passes and positioning. These drills not only improve technical ability but also reinforce teamwork and communication under pressure.
