Advanced Shooting Techniques for Finishing Under Pressure
Finishing under pressure separates elite players from the rest. To train this, create scenarios that replicate game conditions. For example, set up a drill where a midfielder plays a through ball to the attacker, who must shoot within three touches. Add a defender and goalkeeper to increase the challenge.
Focus on striking the ball cleanly with different techniques. Use your laces for power, the inside of your foot for accuracy, and the outside for finesse shots. Practice finishing from various angles, distances, and ball trajectories, such as volleys, low-driven shots, or chipped finishes.
To simulate match pressure, introduce a time constraint, such as scoring within 5 seconds of receiving the ball. You can also vary the conditions, like shooting after a sprint or controlling a high pass before striking. Repetition is key—perform each variation multiple times to develop muscle memory and adaptability. Over time, these drills will make you a more confident and clinical finisher in competitive games.
